A NST performed within the office is a means of monitoring the fetal heart with an external transducer. The tracing is observed for fetal heart rate accelerations associated with fetal movement. A reassuring tracing is thought to be a good indicator of normal fetal autonomic function. Results may be affected by fetal sleep cycle.
